Fukuya @ Jalan Delima

Nestled along Jalan Delima off Jalan Bukit Bintang is a Japanese restaurant that came highly recommended. It was so deeply nestled, in fact, that we missed it the first time around. It was a converted house that now sprawled out like a Japanese garden. Bamboo sprout everywhere giving you the illusion you were indeed in the heart of Japan.

Their mini kaiseki is definitely the must try here. Served course after course, it epitomises Japanese fine dining.

The appetiser came with a variety of finger foods, so to speak. Urchin tofu, scallops, smoked salmon and shishamo were all part of this dish.

Since I'm sensitive towards sashimi, I opted for only the butterfish. Smooth, silky, fresh, melts in your mouth.

This was what their normal serving is. According to my friend, it's perfectly fresh and deliciously flavourful that only excellently prepared sashimi can be.

Teapot soup. Deceptively clear but impressively bursting with flavour.

Egg custard with sharksfin. It was soft and smooth.

Grilled yellow tail. I expected this to be dry but it was succulent and juicy.

The simmered dish came by. Lotus root, mushrooms, chicken and yam. Of all this, I loved the yam. It was a perfect sphere but once you bit into it, the little ball of yam melted.

The main dish of garlic fried rice, prawn tempura and miso soup.

The prawns were wrapped in shiso leaf and then deep fried. Interesting texture of the crispy leaf and prawn.

Miso soup. From its look, I expected it to be super salty but it was light but deliciously flavourful.

Finally, the dessert. Sweet little strawberries served with whipped cream and powdered sugar.
