Sin Chua Kee @ Old Klang Road

Tucked away in a corner after turning out of Old Klang Road near FGA was a restaurant that apparently is quite famous for it's 'tai chou' and I just found out about it recently.

I found out later that many people knew about this place and I have been remiss.

Hokkien Noodles. Very good. The sauce thick and ample 'wok hei' that made feasting on it a pleasant endeavor.

Pork knuckle. Look at the coat of the glistening sauce. I'm not too much of a fan of pork knuckle and stayed away from it but the sauce was excellent. They had little pieces of bread around the plate which was used for dipping.

Pig intestines cooked in garlic and dried shrimp. It's been a long time since I had this. The crunchiness of the intestines was preserved going well with the garlic and shrimp.
For me, this was the best dish of the night. The asam fish was fresh and the asam an intense mix of sour and spice. My only complaint was there wasn't enough sauce.

Obligatory dose of fiber. 'Meh' is all I can say.

Pork slice marinated in 'Nam Yee' and deep fried. It was surprisingly tender and juicy.

Baked crab was the last dish of the day. While it wasn't bad, I still preferred the version I had in Bagan Hailam. But crabs prepared this way is always the best. You can taste the freshness of the meat.

In conclusion, a solid place to have dinner that serves interesting ways of cooking food. Perfect for family dinners.

Zuan Yuan @ One World Hotel

Follow up to the bridal shower post here, my friend had here wedding dinner at Zuan Yuan at the One World Hotel in One Utama.

The wedding dinner took over the entire restaurant, which wasn't that big, thus making it a very intimate affair. Wine was Shiraz from Rosemont Estate. It is actually a fantastic wine at a very, very reasonable price.

The first dish is the obligatory four seasons. I can't honestly say I know what I was eating but I loved the crispy bee hoon thing.

Same dish from the other side. Kung Pao Cuttlefish and some sort of cold scallop dish. It was definitely a good start.

This was the highlight of the entire dinner for me. Double-boiled sharkfins soup with fresh Lily Bulb and Wolfberries. The soup was lovely and tasteful with large pieces of sharksfin in the soup. Excellent.

Roast chicken in brown bean sauce. The thick sauce complimented that well roasted chicken. And topped off with nicely crispy skin.

Freshly steamed pomfret. A lovely fresh fish.

Tiger prawns cooked with spicy oats. I thought it was butter prawns at first. I ended up attacking the oats.

Sauteed celery with lotus root and gingko nuts. Since I was not a fan of celery, I was just nibbling at the lotus root. I can't say I particularly loved this dish.

The last carbohydrate dish of fried rice with seafood. It was a large portion that everyone ended up not being able to finish. It was decently prepared as fried rice went but I prefer the 'wok hei' at the normal 'tai chow' places outside.

Final dishes of dessert that was sea coconut with aloe vera and fresh lemon. I love anything with lemon in it but didn't finish the sea coconut portion as I usually find it a little too sweet.

Two types of desserts. A sweet end to an overall satisfying dinner.

My overall impression of Zuan Yuan was that it was a good place to eat that served food that are beyond the traditional 'wedding banquet' type of cooking.

Marche @ The Curve

We celebrated a good friend's birthday at Marche. And this is the first time I have ever eaten here. The other Marche I have ever eaten at was when I was on my way to the Alps in Switzerland. Same concept, same decor. Perhaps not so same food.

A bunch of us girls went around armed with those little order forms to get a feast ready.

Passionfruit juice. Sour as hell but good. I like the crunchy bits at the bottom.

Lime and orange juice. Wasn't as sour as mine.

Sauteed mushrooms that my friend said was a 'must order'. It tasted like normal sauteed mushrooms to me. Not too bad but not exactly memorable.

The thing to order at Marche, rosti topped with cheese. I am a huge potato fan so I loved this dish.

Another rosti, this time with smoked salmon. We all hated the smoke salmon for it's too fishy taste.

Cream sauce penne. It tasted like regular carbonara.

We ordered a steak at 'medium' which came out bleeding at the top and had to be 'redone'. It came out tasting a little like rubber.

Chicken sausages with brown gravy and mustard.

We move onto dessert. It was rather disappointing as it was rather dry.

Life isn't complete without chocolate. However, it tasted rather stale as well.

Marche isn't too bad a place to eat but there are some hits and misses. The desserts are a definite miss but give the rosti a try.

Bounasera @ SS2

I know I have been remiss in updating my blogs and for that I am truly sorry. I'm posting a restaurant today which I have been before prior to this but I'm putting in this dinner first because my friend would kill me if I didn't.

It was her bridal shower and we wanted to go somewhere special and to try something special, so I contacted the chef at Bounasera for a special menu just for us.

Taylors Shiraz, one of my favourite medium range wines.

Complimentary bread for the night. Freshly toasted and dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. An excellent start to the night.

The first course of the day is the Italian Antipasti Platter. Filled with olives, sausages, parma ham and rock melon.

Our second course of Onion Soup. Light and very refreshing.

Salad with fresh mozzarella cheese. The chef came by and drizzled 75 year old balsamic vinegar over it. That seriously changed the entire dish. The vinegar was thick like ink and gave off an intense sweetness that complimented the normally light tasting mozzarella cheese well.

Foie Gras on a bed of spinach with 48 hours reduction duck sauce. Can you say decadent?

We had two mains for the night as some didn't eat beef. This was cod fish that was light and flavourful. Delightfully moist and delicious prepared.

Everyone else had this, Angus Beef Wellington served with 48 hours beef reduction sauce, baby chat mash and white asparagus. The beef was lovely pink and the pastry light and fluffy.

For me this was the fun part. Dessert was a lovely, smooth and rich hazelnut chocolate tart. It was served with vanilla ice cream and a huge dollop of whipped cream.

We couldn't leave an Italian restaurant without at least trying the tiramisu. Now that would be an insult to my sensibilities. But, oh my god, was it good. The flavour of Baileys Irish Cream bursting on my tongue. The best I have tasted to date.

Golden Dragonboat Restaurant @ Kampong Pandan

Birthday dinners with the family is usually held at Chinese restaurants. I've had the opportunity to visit Golden Dragonboat Restaurant a few times and so far the food hasn't disappointed me to date.

We got a room, with karaoke. And you know what that means: NOISE!!

Four (erm three) season. Some sort of meat wrapped in bacon, which is good. Heck, anything wrapped in bacon is always good. Baby octopus that tasted like regular fare you get at Japanese sushi chains and some sort of chicken stir fry.

Sharks fin and crab meat soup with a sprinkling of crab roe. I wish I could wax poetic, but it was just regular sharks fin soup. It didn't taste bad or anything but I can't say it's any special from elsewhere. It was still properly prepared.

Steamed Kampung chicken. I expected this to be tough but it was very tender and smooth. I found myself surprised that I liked this a lot.

Steamed fish. Fresh and went well with the endless bowls of rice my family ordered.

Fresh and crunchy prawns. The 'butter' parts were quickly commandeered by me.

The obligatory veggie and taufu dish. I'm not really impressed but ate it for the sake of fibre.

The birthday noodle. Yum! Enough said.

Lotus seed pancake.

Logan and sea coconut dessert. As usual, I don't really go for such desserts.
