Western Restaurant @ Bankers Club, Amoda Building

It was my uncle's birthday and he invited me for lunch at the Bankers Club. At that time I had no idea it was at the Western Restaurant, where formal wear (or at the very least smart casual) was a must. I was just glad I wasn't wearing slippers that day.

I guess it was a Saturday and they were getting ready for a wedding dinner because things were very quiet there.

Bright shiny flatware.

I had never been much of a fan of Italian wines but I considered myself reformed. This was flavourful and slid down the throat smoothly.

Fresh bread that was replenished throughout the meal.

Seafood bisque served in a bread bowl. Bursting with flavour with a deep hint of alcohol, cognac I think.

White asparagus was the special of the month. When we asked the waiter what's the difference between white and green asparagus, we were horrified to be told: The colour. To be quiet honest while it tasted good, it wasn't any different with the green variety.

The lunch set came with the appetiser of chicken ham and a small side salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar. It's pretty basic.

Beef for the lunch set. Very well prepared with the exact doneness.

This was their award winning cod fish. Wonderfully juicy.

Another award winner of duck. I didn't like this so much as I found the duck pretty tough. It smells heavenly though.

Chicken Cordon Bleu. I didn't try this but I could see the cheese oozing out from the middle. Uncle had no complains at all.

The dessert for the set lunch. I wasn't really sure what this was. The closest I can describe it was a lemony mousse. Light and refreshing with just the right amount of tart to help digest a lovely meal.

Betel Leaf Indian Restaurant @ Lebuh Ampang

Lunch is usually a casual affair on a weekday. However, a bunch of us wanted to try something different. Indian Fine Dining is that something different we decided to try.

Betel Leaf is a restaurant above Nalli's, a shop that sells sarees. It's dimly lit, giving off a sense of warm comfort. There are a host of stainless steel and copper wares for sale as well as a wooden swing. It's actually a perfect place to entertain for lunch.

And it's a halal outlet.

Not exactly papadam, but it's crunchy and free flow.

Mutton Beryani served in a stainless steel pot. All the yummy goodness is beneath the rice.

Bits of mutton and whole egg lay hidden under the fragrant rice.

The Vege Lunch set. This comes with rice and according to my colleague, everything single little dish is a winner. It's not wonder because we see platters on platters of these being served on tables.

My favourite dish here, Butter Chicken Marsala. It's the right combination of slightly sweet and spicy chicken in a thick creamy marsala gravy.

Another favourite of Gobi Manchurian. Basically battered cauliflower fried and cooked in sauce. Despite it being a vegetable, it tastes like chicken. However, today they were a little off form and the taste was definitely lacking.

All eaten with a crispy naan, bread cooked in a clay over.

And to help with digestion after such a sinfully heavy meal, rasam. It's basically soup cooked with spices. This is thicker than what I've tasted in other Indian restaurants but I had a problem with it being not sour enough.

Madras Coffee. Hot milk flavoured with coffee. Delicious and thick.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. @ The Curve

It was a toss up between Marche or Bubba Gump, and feeling for seafood, we headed over to try this chain on the second floor.

Nothing whets the appetite more than smiling shrimp on a menu.

A baffling sign adorns the table.

It wasn't until the waiter came by, asked us what we needed and then flipped it back to the first sign that we realised it was this restuarant's unique way of calling for service.

Our drinks came. I had the Speckled Lemonade in Blueberry and the Cousin had the Alabama Sweet Smoothie. Both were refreshing and delicious. I liked the smoothie more because what's not to like with the decadent mixture of chocolate and peanut butter?

The Clam Chowder was on the side of alright but forgettable.

So was the mash potatoes. While it was smooth and comfort foody, there isn't anything particularly special about that made it stand out.

The presentation of the onion rings was totally impressive. I liked the crunch of it and the dipping sauces of  Chipotle Ranch and BBQ complimented it well.

We ordered the Bucket of Boat Trash to share. While the name isn't exactly appetising, the food was. We got a good mixture of shrimp, lobster tail and fish fillet over a small bed of fries. All tasted fresh and well prepared. We never managed to finish the fries though.

The dipping sauces and the coleslaw. Not exactly the main idea of the meal.

What's life without dessert? And we ordered an aptly named 'That Chocolate Thing'. Looks like they weren't sure what it was and neither were we. Safe to say it was just full of chocolate, rich and decadent. I loved it despite feeling overwhelmed towards the end. Who wouldn't with dense chocolate cake (at least that's what I think it is) topped off with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream?

Aroma Ikan Bakar @ Pantai Jeram. Kuala Selangor

The company recently had an outing for an eating expedition. Seems like eating is the favourite past time of Malaysians everywhere. We even brave Friday evening traffic to travel an hour out of town to Kuala Selangor.

It's an impressively large restaurant in the middle of nowhere (in my view, of course). It's not strictly speaking in Kuala Selangor but around 20 minutes from there in a place called Pantai Jeram. Ask me again how to get there, I can't tell you.

A large spread waited for us, since our car was the last to arrive. Food was aplenty and the first thing I saw was the crab. The sauce was fantastic. Drench it with rice and you've a meal made.

The buttered prawns were not exactly fresh in my opinion. It was sticking to the shells a little too much but I liked the golden strands though. I ended up eating most of it.

The battered deep-friend calamari was the highlight for me. It was crispy and tender. Best dish of the day, easily.

Another well executed dish of deep fried fish. They call this 'Ikan Tiga Rasa' (Three Taste Fish). It tasted like a sweeter and spicier version of sweet and sour fish.

The grilled stingray was a bit tough even if it was quite tasty.

Another dish of prawns that suffered the same comment as above. Prawns sticking to the shells.

The steams cockles were something I don't fancy and didn't try. But it was a hit amongst the rest as it was quickly gobbled down.
Overall it was a tasty meal, especially the nasi lemak I had it with. I failed to take any pictures of it as it was inhaled rather efficiently.

Now, let's meet a local resident that stole my seat the moment I got up to take some pictures:

Naughty little tom.

Then we end the day with a gorgeous sunset.

Amarin Heavenly Thai @ Midvalley

Sometimes you just want your Thai food fix.

And with a cranky 3 year old around, you just can't afford to run around looking for food. Besides, Amarin has always been a place I can go to for decent Thai food.

I order the Red Curry Beef here, instead of their Green Curry. For some reason, the Red Curry tastes better and there more kaffir lime leaves in it, which is always a plus for me.

My mom's favourite fish cake, which to me, is just your average fish cake. Then again, I never really had much affinity to this dish to begin with.

Their hot plate beef is excellent. Not only is it flavourful, but it's tender and none of the 'smell of beef' that my mom usually avoids.

Fried morning glory for your daily dose of vits.

Taufu for the nephew. In previous visits, this dish always had a little bit of spiciness to it, which makes it hard on the nephew. But this time around, they made is just right for a toddler.

End off on a sweet note with Mango Sticky Rice. Mom's favourite but we ended up finishing the mango and less the sticky rice. Too full.

Red rubies for me. It's okay, not really that spectacular but edible.
